ABOUT ST. MAARTEN

“Sint Maarten (French: Saint-Martin; Dutch: Sint Maarten) is an island in the northeast Caribbean, approximately 300 km east of Puerto Rico. The 87 km2 island is divided roughly 60/40 between France (53 km2) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands (34 km2).

French and Dutch have lived side by side on St. Maarten/St. Martin for hundreds of years—with no border patrols or customs between them. The French side has a more genteel ambience, fashionable shopping and a Continental flair. The Dutch side tends to be less expensive, have casino hotels and more nightlife. The official language of the island is Dutch and French but due to the number of visitors, English and Spanish is also understood in most hotels and restaurants.

The island of St Maarten has 37 beautiful white beaches, crystal clear sea, bounty islands near the coast, palm trees and a tropical relaxed atmosphere. It is immersed by gentle trade winds and the climate is sunny and warm year-round. Average temperature during the winter season is 27ºC and a few degrees warmer and more humid in the summer with an average water temperature of 25ºC. For active people this is a perfect destination for water sports like surfing, skim boarding, sailing, snorkeling, diving, jet skiing and deep sea fishing.

Don't forget that a smile is the easiest and most universal form of communication!
